Kanta Company "Clothes and Us" (LV, FIN, USA)
Full length performance
2nd October 17:00 @ Sakala 3
Kestas Matusevičius, Aino Mäkipää, Lyla Goldman
Duration: 45 minutes
Clothes. We wear them every day. They come in all sizes, colours, and patterns. We spend countless hours buying, washing, drying, folding, and wearing them. In this show clothes take over the world. As fabrics change shape and come alive, you realize that no human being is on stage but somehow something is still breathing. Human shaped hoodies, priests, brides, silk draped ghosts, monsters and moving piles of clothes - a world ruled by clothing, surreal but recognizable in its proximity to everyday life. What do clothes mean to us? Who are we without clothes and how do they change us? Can they protect us? What do they hide? As clothes take over our world, we delve into the memories and stories they hold and the important role they play in our lives, and come to cherish them dearly.
Welcome to the world of Clothes and Us as we follow three humans and a cast of clothes donated from around the world on a journey that evolves from the everyday drudgery of laundry to fantastical scenes of T-shirt puppets and flying ghosts. This show includes object manipulation, aerial silks, acrobatics, Chinese pole, and more in a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Created for kids and families, it aims to turn your closet into a place filled not just with clothes, but with memories, stories, and friends.
Kanta Company is three circus artists from three different countries - Finland, Lithuania, and USA. The crew met at SaSak circus school in Lahti, Finland where they worked together on numerous productions before forming their own company in 2019. They aspire to create entertaining but thought provoking circus with a multi disciplinary approach that combines aerial acrobatics, Chinese pole, object manipulation, and physical comedy. Through circus they create a world where the everyday is extraordinary, and the real becomes surreal. Clothes and Us is their first full length show and has been performed at ReRiga Festival in Riga, Latvia and New Circus Weekend Festival in Vilnius, Lithuania, among others. The final version will premiere in April 2021.
